Dear Agu
Thank you for visiting your site and your enquiry.
Christian and Lucy are joining our church for one year and have been introduced to us by Careforce. This is an organisation which places young people from Britain and overseas in churches across Great Britain, where they serve in the church and local community to gain life and work experience. You can find out more about Careforce by clicking on the green link in the post or visiting http://www.careforce.co.uk/

Can I ask though - how did you get this picked up and into google news?

Very impressive that this blog is syndicated through Google and is it something that is just up to Google or you actively created?

Obviously this is a popular blog with great data so well done on your seo success..

Soccer / Football greats you should write about next!
-----
Thanks for your encouraging comments. I'm afraid I cannot advise about Google syndication. We have done nothing to get it as far as I am aware - I think it just gets picked up by the search engines. It may be connected with Wordpress who host this blog and who do a great job.

Can you please forward to me any e mail addresses or postal addresses that could help me in the pursuit of my family history research.

I am researching the surname Usher, Ernest James, born at 131 Fulbourne Road, Walthamstow in 1904.
----
Dear Jackie
Thank you for your enquiry left on the Parish of Walthamstow magazine site. Information about births, marriages and deaths for the four churches in our parish can be supplied on application to the Parish Office and information in registers earlier than those currently in use is held by Vestry House Museum, Vestry Rd, E17. I am afraid that we cannot supply genealogical research information for the wider Walthamstow area. Fulbourne Rd is in the Parish of St John, Chingford Rd, Walthamstow and you need to contact them in the first instance for the information you seek.
Best wishes for your research

I just felt I had to express my dismay at the Council's action in removing the trees (during the school holiday) from the school.

As I understand it the school was unaware that all the trees were to be removed - and the staff and children are extremely upset.

I am staggered by the apparent thoughtlessness of the Council (some might say insensitivity and high handedness), but unfortunately this appears to be one of many such instances.

If you intend to stir up local support to shame the Council into putting right this or are organising a petition please let me know. I and others would be more than willing to offer our support.

Yours

Barry Coidan

Dear Barry
Thank you for visiting the Parish of Walthamstow magazine online and for your comment. The school governors have asked me to send you the following reply.
Best wishes
Shirley
on behalf of the Editorial team

We're always glad when people engage in local issues. We are not intending to 'stir up local support to shame the council' on this matter. It is always a shame when trees in our local area are cut down and it is rarely done lightly. In this case the council are faced with 2 separate issues: (1) The trees in question were inspected by experts who verified that 4 out of the 5 were dangerous and had to come down (the reasons included disease and insufficient root strength to sustain the upper tree - with serious risks of falling onto the road or children at school). Public safety is a legal obligation, so the council had to act. (2) There are rising numbers of children in Waltham Forest and insufficient school places for them. The council has a legal obligation to provide places and so, in common with other schools in the borough, St Mary's will be receiving an extra class of children (30) this year. With very limited options on a cramped school site the space next to The Drive was judged, probably rightly, as the only suitable option for a range of complex reasons. In this case that has entailed the cutting down of one of the trees to make space (the other 4 being affected by (1) above. This answer is simply to put the already known facts into this conversation. None of the above was done lightly, and the actions were the outcome of correctly following legal obligations (safety and education). They were initiated and carried out by the council, not the school or church directly. We suggest that if you need further clarification as to the reasoning behind this move then the appropriate people to tackle would be the council's education department in the first instance. They can be found here: http://www.walthamforest.gov.uk/index/education.htm or contacted on 020 8496 3000.
---
Dear Shirley, thanks for your (the school governors’) reply. I do hope that since four out the five were cut down because of disease the Council will replace them at or near the original site.
Barry

"I am interested in attending the conference on 26th April I would also like to get some information on the Street Pastor's course. when it starts and the cost."

Hi Jennifer

If you click the link at the top of the Vocations Day page for Chelmsford Diocese and you can make your enquiry there.
http://parishofwalthamstow.wordpress.com/2008/02/23/chelmsford-diocese-barking-area-vocations-day-2008/

I have contacted a friend who has just finished The Street Pastor’s course. It has just restarted (first week was last Saturday, 9 March) and takes place at St Matthew's Church, Brixton. It is run by The Ascension Trust, telephone 020 7771 9770 for information. The cost is around £300.

Can you please forward to me any e mail addresses or postal addresses that could help me in the pursuit of my family history research.

I am researching the surname Usher, Ernest James, born at 131 Fulbourne Road, Walthamstow in 1904.
